What Is Sushi Rice?
Sushi rice is made from Japanese short-grain white rice, seasoned with vinegar and sugar. Unlike regular rice, sushi rice is steamed so that it turns out stickier, which is what gives sushi its characteristic texture.
How to Make Perfect Sushi Rice
- To make the sushi rice, first wash it (250g) until the water runs clear.
- Drain the rice and put it in a pan with 330ml water. Simmer for 10 minutes with the lid on.
- Turn off the heat and leave to stand for 15–20 minutes with the lid on.
