They can be used in soups, stews, salads, grain bowls and side dishes, or combined with rice, quinoa, vegetables and spices.
Their simple preparation makes them a useful pantry ingredient for home cooking and meal preparation.
How to Cook Brown Lentils
- Add 1 cup brown lentils to a saucepan.
- Add approximately 2⅔ cups water or vegetable broth.
- Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat.
- Add optional seasonings such as black pepper, paprika or salt.
- Simmer for around 20–25 minutes, or until tender.
- Drain any excess liquid if required and serve.
