Whole Red Lentils for Everyday Meals
Aksoy Red Whole Lentils are dried whole lentils with a mild earthy flavour and soft texture once cooked.
Whole red lentils generally take longer to cook than split red lentils and retain their shape for longer during cooking.
Use them in soups, curries, side dishes, salads and other savoury recipes.
How to Cook Red Whole Lentils
Soaking is not required. Rinse the lentils thoroughly in cold water and remove any debris before cooking.
- Place the lentils in a saucepan and cover with water.
- Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat.
- Cover and simmer until tender, usually around 15–20 minutes.
- Drain any excess water if required.
- Season and use in your chosen recipe.
Whole vs Split Red Lentils
Split red lentils cook more quickly and soften easily, making them especially useful for soups, curries and purées.
Whole red lentils take a little longer to cook and are useful where a more defined lentil texture is preferred.
